Which Gyms Are Open on Thanksgiving 2020? Planet Fitness, LA Fitness, Equinox Opening Hours

Some gyms are open on Thanksgiving, which this year falls on November 26. Here we look at the hours of operation at some major gyms across the country, including Crunch Fitness, Gold’s Gym and more.

Planet Fitness

Most Planet Fitness gyms are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Contact your local venue to confirm before visiting.

The fitness chain has implemented several safety measures amid the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak, including “requiring all members to wear masks while in-club so you can gym safely and confidently.

“Keep a safe distance by putting an imaginary treadmill, or two, between you and others,” the company noted.

Guests can also see how many people are at their local branch before visiting through the Planet Fitness mobile app. “Just open up the app and tap Crowd Meter to view how many members are there,” the company advises.

LA Fitness

Some LA Fitness locations have yet to resume operations amid the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak, while several have reopened. Some LA Fitness gyms have been on a reduced schedule on Thanksgiving in previous years, while some facilities have been closed. Contact your nearest venue to confirm Thanksgiving opening hours before visiting.

Equinox

The hours of operation at Equinox over holidays, such as Thanksgiving, vary by location. Check your local branch to confirm opening and closing times before visiting.

Equinox gyms have also issued new safety guidelines amid the ongoing pandemic.

“Physical distancing of at least 6-to-10 feet, depending on local guidelines, between members and employees is required at all times. Please respect floor markings and any other visual cues that facilitate distancing at the front desk, in our locker rooms, studios, and other club areas.

“Mask requirements vary by local government mandates,” and guests are advised to check their local branch for details before visiting.

Guests are required to make a booking for their gym session before their visit using the Equinox mobile app, while some branches may require a temperature check.

See the Equinox website for more information.

Crunch Fitness

Some branches of Crunch Fitness are operating on reduced hours on Thanksgiving.

Crunch Fitness gyms have introduced several safety measures, including mask requirements for staff “alongside other PPE [personal protective equipment] if required by public health officials.

“We recommend members wear masks within the gym (unless mask wearing is required at all times by public health officials),” the company said.

Social distancing guidelines and enhanced disinfecting equipment have also been implemented, including the “airPHX clean air systems” which “uses atmospheric cold plasma to change a small percentage of the oxygen molecules in the air into a unique spectrum of oxidizing molecules that kill bacteria, viruses, and mold,” the company noted.

See the Crunch Fitness website to see the hours of operation and the specific safety guidelines issued at your nearest branch.

Anytime Fitness

Anytime Fitness gyms are usually open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including on holidays such as Thanksgiving. Contact your local branch to confirm before visiting.

Possible coronavirus exposures at Madison County Walmart, Price Chopper, Planet Fitness

Oneida, N.Y. — The Madison County Health Department is warning of three potential recent exposures to the coronavirus.

Health officials said that anyone who visited the following locations during the following times should monitor for symptoms:

Planet Fitness, 2002 Glenwood Shopping Plaza, Oneida. Time of exposure: Oct. 20, from 5 p.m. to 5:45 p.m.; and Oct. 21 and 22, from 5 to 5:15 p.m.

Walmart, 2024 Genesee St., Oneida. Time of exposure: Oct. 22, from 5:30 to 5:45 p.m.

Price Chopper, 142 Genesee St, Oneida. Time of exposure: Oct. 21, from 5:30 to 5:45 p.m.

In all three cases, the individuals who tested positive for Covid-19 who visited the three locations were wearing masks.

The county encourages anyone who visited those locations to monitor themselves for symptoms of Covid-19, which include fever, cough, chills, muscle pain, sore throat, new loss of taste or smell, congestion or runny rose, nausea and vomiting, diarrhea or difficulty breathing. County officials say anyone who visited Walmart and Planet Fitness in Oneida should monitor for symptoms through Nov. 5; and anyone who was at Price Chopper should monitor through Nov. 4.

“It is important that residents remain diligent and continue to do their part to limit the spread of COVID-19,” county health officials said in a news release. “Please protect yourself and others by wearing a face covering when you are out in public, especially when you are unable to maintain social distancing. Also, please practice good hygiene. These guidelines are for all of our protection to stop the spread of COVID-19 in our community.”

Madison County also announced it has partnered with SUNY Upstate to hold Covid-19 diagnostic mobile testing clinics.

Testing is available to anyone interested at no cost to the patient, however they are by appointment only. To schedule an appoint, call (315) 464-2582 and select option 0.

“They are experiencing longer than usual wait times, so please be patient and remain on hold to book an appointment,” health officials said.

The mobile testing clinics are scheduled from 3 to 7 p.m. on the following Thursdays:

Oct. 29 and Nov. 12 at the Madison County Complex parking lot, 138 N. Court St., Wampsville.

Peloton and Planet Fitness Pumped for Pandemic Workouts. Here’s Why.

Text size

Macquarie analyst Paul Golding sees double-digit upside for upscale exercise-bike maker Peloton and low-cost gym chain Planet Fitness.

Courtesy Peloton

The Covid-19 pandemic has closed gyms, pushing consumers to work out at home. But an analyst at Macquarie is bullish on both

Peloton Interactive

and

Planet Fitness.

Peloton stock (ticker: PTON) has soared to new highs, rocketing 368% so far in 2020. With gyms were closed, Peloton sales soared as consumers poneyed up for the company’s premium exercise bike and $39-a-month connected fitness subscription. At the same time, Planet Fitness stock (PLNT) fell 15%.

Macquarie analyst Paul Golding has Outperform ratings on both stocks. On Tuesday, he raised his Peloton price target to $150, and maintained a $78 price target on Planet Fitness. That represents 13% and 23% respective upside for the stocks.

Golding thinks Peloton is a good value for consumers, at the price of about three SoulCycle classes a month. He thinks the company’s can leverage its value and bundle equipment. He also thinks it could acquire an athleisure brand or develop a strength platform either by issuing more shares or using liquidity on hand, if the company wants to own the broader fitness category.

Consumers can get a Peloton bike for about $49 a month, the Peloton Treadmill at about $64 a month, and the membership at $39 a month. He thinks an additional $8 a month for a bench and weights could help boost retention. Such a scenario highlights the trouble Peloton could spell for gyms. Golding expects membership cancellations to hit midtier and high-end gyms, boutique gyms, and studios.

But if consumers combine Peloton’s at-home instruction with a low-cost gym membership, Planet Fitness could actually stand out, according to Golding.

“Enter Planet Fitness—with its almost 2,100 stores and Black Card reciprocity, and with a 50% gym membership rate across Peloton subscribers as an example across in-home platforms, we think Planet Fitness is poised to become the de facto bricks-and-mortar gym for many looking to diversify their fitness offerings,” Golding wrote. “And of course, reciprocity comes by virtue of being open and well capitalized.”

Pointing to industrywide struggles, Golding thinks Planet Fitness can benefit from consolidation.

“We think certain swaths of the competitive landscape like midtier gyms as well as boutiques and studios are likely to be affected by the secular shifts toward virtual fitness, leaving fewer brick -and-mortar alternatives to Planet domestically (especially at these price-points), and leaving more real estate available for Planet franchisees to take advantage of,” he wrote.

In Tuesday morning trading, Peloton stock is down about 1% to $131.90, while Planet Fitness stock is flat.

After Pandemic Delay, Planet Fitness Opens At Moorestown Mall

MOORESTOWN, NJ — Planet Fitness is now open at the Moorestown Mall, mall officials announced. The gym, which was set to open at the mall in the spring, opened on Thursday, according to the mall.

The opening was delayed while the mall was closed due to the coronavirus pandemic. The mall closed in March to help stop the spread of the virus, and reopened in June. Read more here: Moorestown Mall To Reopen June 29

Planet Fitness’s 23,000 square foot facility joins Orangetheory Fitness among the health and wellness outlets offered at the mall. Planet Fitness offers a range of activities, including the use of free weights, cardio workouts personalized exercise programs and small group trainings.

“Gym-goers today are focused on the fitness journey — they’re not just going to the gym, but buying attire that suits their athletic style and seeking healthier eating alternatives,” PREIT CEO Joseph F. Coradino said previously. “We want to provide local consumers with more reasons to choose the mall as their go-to destination for activities that suit their lifestyle. With the addition of Planet Fitness, we’re continuing to add health and wellness tenants supporting the all-encompassing experience offered by our properties as consumer interests expand well beyond soft goods.”

Planet Fitness already has three Burlington County locations, in Cinnaminson, Delran and Mount Laurel, as well as one on Route 70 in Cherry Hill. Memberships start at $10 a month, with an annual fee of $39.

The announcement follows the re-opening of Maplewood Moorestown at the mall last week. The restaurant had been open for about a year before it was forced to close due to the pandemic. Read more here: Maplewood Moorestown Holds Grand Reopening Amid Pandemic
