Health Savings Accounts and Chiropractic Care

The healthcare industry in the United States is dominated by the culture of conventional Western medicine. And health insurance caters to those who control the industry: medical doctors and hospitals. There is a long history of prejudice against chiropractic by medical doctors, which is one reason that chiropractic care is not often covered by health insurance.

Many research studies have shown that chiropractic care is beneficial and that it is more cost effective in the treatment of low back pain and other common musculoskeletal conditions than traditional Western medicine is. Chiropractic also lowers health care costs by focusing on prevention, was well as on treatment.

It is surprising that health insurers choose not to cover treatment that is as beneficial and cost effective as chiropractic care is. Studies have continually shown that individuals who seek the care of a chiropractor on a regular basis are healthier and, generally, spend less on health care than those who do not.

Chiropractic Care and Consumers

What is not surprising is that consumers are wise enough to see the advantages of chiropractic care. Many people prefer to see a chiropractor simply because they see tangible benefits from the care they receive. Many others are disillusioned with traditional Western medicine and the healthcare system, and they look for alternatives such as chiropractic care.

It is clear, both from patient testimonies and from clinical research that consumers benefit from chiropractic care. Unfortunately, they may have difficulty affording chiropractic care because it's often excluded from healthcare insurance policies.

Health Savings Accounts can help consumers afford chiropractic care, even when it is excluded from their health insurance policy. They can pay for chiropractic care and other alternative medicine with pre-tax dollars by using a Health Savings Account.

Many chiropractors keep their costs as low as possible in order to make chiropractic care more available to consumers. They can, however, only absorb so much of the cost of providing that care. Another way chiropractors can help clients gain access to chiropractic care is to encourage the use of Health Savings Accounts.

Health Savings Accounts and Consumer Choice

The combination of a Health Savings Account and a High Deductible Health Insurance plan is supposed to encourage individuals to become thoughtful, wise consumers of health care. The individual is spending more of his or her own dollars on healthcare, so she will be more concerned about how those dollars are spent.

Health Savings Accounts give consumers more choice in how their healthcare dollars are spent. Money in the HSA must be spent on approved medical expenses, but there are really very few restrictions on what kind of healthcare you choose. More and more chiropractic patients are discovering that having an HSA is saving them money on their medical expenses.

Traditional health insurance has gatekeepers and controls. Even when chiropractic care is covered (not typical on individual plans), the individual requesting chiropractic care may be required to go see their family physician (or gatekeeper) and get a referral. Not all medical doctors …

1. Attitude; attention; actions: Do you proceed, with a true, positive, can – do, attitude, or, do you let the self – imposed limitations of your comfort zone, dominate you? How much attention do you pay, to your health, and well – being, and do your actions, match your rhetoric, and claims? Will you transform obstacles to challenges, to overcome, or consider them, as problems, and become debilitated?

2. Faith; feeling; feelings: How much faith, do you have, in yourself? Are you feeling, good vibes , about your personal value, and do you pay close attention, to your feelings?

Hopefully, you will realize, good things take time, and persistence, and will proceed with the endurance, to ensure positive results! When you demand the utmost degree of personal excellence, you will proceed with positive expectations, and self – belief!

Nothing Is More Valuable Than Your Health

How valuable is your Health? If you succeed at making a lot of money and having a lot of stuff, what good is it if you won't be around to enjoy it. That's right, if you don't have your health you don't have much else. Therefore, pretty quickly your health becomes one of your top defined.

Such a shame that are recently the actor who played Tony Soprano passed away, the same goes for the father in the fresh Prince of Bel Air. Two very successful actors who died way before they should have. It makes me think about our health and it becomes very real. Some of us to even speed our path to termination with unhealthy ways of life such as drugs. I mention this because just recently after by the name of Philip Seymour Hoffman passed away. They found him dead with a heroin needle in his arm. So please stay and be healthy and avoid harmful activities that are clear detriment to your health.

You know I was watching an episode of one of my favorite shows Shark Tank . Funny all the sharks, are very much about health. You could tell by the dollar they are willing to invest, some of the things they think are good ideas. They like things that are normal healthy items. I think maybe it's because they all know that they need their health to enjoy their millions and billions of dollars. Not to mention if you are in poor health the cost can be immense. Remember, I said that one of the number one reasons for bankruptcy in the US was health care costs or debts. Things can come up pretty quick, and they can cost you a pretty penny.

You often hear how "prevention is worth a pound of cure". This is so true! Many don't take it very serious until they had or have a major health issue.

Or maybe that someone did have a major health problem and they beat it. If that happened, I'm sure they are very thankful. They don't want to go through that ordeal again. Not taking care of yourself is like playing 'Russian Roulette'. In other words 'rolling the dice'! You don't want to chance your health or just wish and hope for good health. You can do things to improve or maintain your health.

Now, think about going to your doctor. You have to take time out of your busy schedule, plan your day around it, maybe the kids day too. Then you go, wait in the waiting room, wait in the room. Then you have to go pick up a prescription, etc … You probably don't want to go.

Also, don't forget about those who depend on you, maybe like your kids. We want to play games with the kids, read with the kids, go to their school functions, and more.

So don't neglect your health and do your best to be as healthy as you can. Your health …

Juicing For Colon Health

The first thing to emphasize is that I'm not a medical professional and I'm not giving medical advice about any specific condition. Please consult your doctor or other health professional for medical advice.

In terms of juicing for colon health I can only say what worked for me in my own search for health. I did not approach this from the angle of trying to cure a disease but instead attempting to gain vibrant health and letting everything else take care of itself.

I juiced twice per day and consumed the equivalent of 4 pints of green juice, 2 pints in the morning and 2 pints at lunchtime.

Although I wanted to juice cleanse specifically for colon health, I also wanted to juice for optimal kidney, liver and immune system health. The outcome is that rather than specifically focusing on the colon, you are in fact taking an all of body or holistic approach.

My favorite recipe for a colon cleanse is: –

1 lemon
1 small to medium chunk of Ginger root
1 small chunk of turmeric
½ large cucumber
6 to 7 celery stalks
2 apples
1 fennel bulb
Why did I choose these ingredients?

All of these ingredients have massive health benefits when juiced.

Lemon is the ultimate superfood and it also tastes great.

Ginger and Turmeric have well documented anti-inflammatory properties and ginger gives the juice a fantastic kick to it.

Celery and cucumber are packed with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants and are very healing and hydrating.

Apples are another superfood, have many health benefits and sweeten the juice giving it a great taste.

Fennel – has many health benefits and it great for colon health.

If you don't have all of the ingredients, it does not matter. Just the fact that you are juicing at all puts you on a path to improving your health.

Feel free to substitute new ingredients in as you see fit. For example leafy green vegetables like Kale and spinach are fantastic if your juicer can handle them as well as carrots and pears

You may wish to go easy to start wish, especially if you are moving from an unhealthy diet to a healthier one that includes juicing.

What does green juice do to your body?

You may feel some detox symptoms such as headaches, flu-like symptoms and tiredness. This is normal and may vary in intensity depending on a number of factors such as how poor your lifestyle was beforehand and how hard you detox.

You may need to rest a bit more to deal with these symptoms but go with it, the result is worth it.

Other by-products of juicing for health are likely to be weight loss, increased energy, vitality and mental focus.

Juicing is worth it. Keep with it and …

Replace and Revise Health Insurance

If the Trump administration truly wanted to repeal and replace healthcare with all the right intentions, then their main focus would not only be targeted at the American people. The administration should include and focus their attention on these type of organizations as well: the large pharmaceutical companies, healthcare providers and insurers. This small list does not include attorneys whose legal expertise at hand is suing companies around the clock and another reason why healthcare cost is out of control. These manufacturers, providers, insurers and law firms are some of the main reasons why health insurance is so costly. Did you know there is no cap on the amount of money insurance companies can charge their customers' for the amount of their monthly premiums?

There is much talk about tax credits, the rising cost of insurance, social economic barriers, and the possibility of Medicaid being phased out altogether by the year 2020. These topics raise a concern. Where and how are people going to afford any type of insurance? In particular, how will those earning minimum wage and are not part of group coverage through their employer health plans afford insurance? The above complexities and legal jargon being used today is just another way to cause confusion.

This is not an hard fix and just another way to keep the American people bamboozled and baffled. One thing that had been done right to a certain degree was when insurers use to calculate and follow the underwriting process. Underwriting is a process when insurers would get information from the medical information bureau to review your medical history to determine risk tolerance. Today, this process has been eliminated; Therefore, insurance companies do not know who they are insuring which causes ridiculous premiums. One way to lower premiums again is to simply allow the underwriting process to begin again. No one's premiums should be higher than their monthly mortgage, even if the entire family is insured. Insurers need to have the freedom once again to underwrite people who are in good health and adjust monthly premiums based on consumers risk factors.

The mandates that are in place under the Affordable Care Act guidelines should remain intact and no one should be denied coverage. Everyone should still be able to get coverage regardless of their pre-existing conditions and if people are financially challenged then there should be financial assistance available to help people afford health insurance. More than enough money is being spent on everything else, such as defense spending and infrastructure, and not enough on humanity. Some states have what is known as cost share reduction plans (csr) which limits the amount of money people pay on their deductible and limits the maximum out of pocket cost consumers would pay in medical expenses.

Ohio, California, and Georgia to name a few have such plans. In addition, the state of New York, is an perfect example for caring for their residents who are economically challenged. They have insurance available for people based on their …

Health Risks of PVC Roofing Membrane

Many building owners and manufacturers have asked me why I don't offer PVC membrane to my flat roof customers. I simply feel that PVC is too great of a risk to take.

What is PVC?

PVC, or Polyvinyl Chloride, is made from the polymerization of vinyl chloride monomer (VCM), a toxic, carcinogenic gas. It is a durable, economical material with many uses. 75% of all PVC consumption in North America is attributed to plastic pipes. PVC is also used as a membrane to cover flat roofs, and appears to the average person to look exactly like TPO membrane.

What are the risks associated with PVC?

Research shows that dioxin, which is the most potent carcinogen known to science, along with vinyl chloride and certain acids, are created and released during the production of PVC. These chemicals can cause severe health problems such as:

  • cancer
  • neurological damage
  • immune system damage
  • respiratory problems
  • liver and kidney failure
  • birth defects
  • asthma

These are problems that the public and roofing contractors have a right to know about.

My story

About 12 years ago, PVC was the primary material we used in our flat roofing division here at Brady Roofing. After we began installing PVC, I started to experience health problems. I have been healthy my entire life, so when these issues came on so suddenly, it made me wonder about the safety of PVC membrane. This led me to do some serious research on the material. I found that manufacturers actually know that PVC membrane is very toxic, but they were hiding these facts from me during our conversations.

My personal health problems included severe respiratory issues and neurological damage. The neurological issues are actually getting worse, despite the fact that I no longer install PVC. I don't want to go into my own health problems too deeply, but just to illustrate, my left lower body is experiencing a slow atrophy of the muscles due to neurological damage. My left calf is currently 1.25 inches smaller in circumference than my right. While I have no proof, I strongly believe it is caused from breathing the toxins found in PVC membrane. I have no genetic predisposition for such neurological issues.

Is this research relevant?

I approached our PVC manufacturer about the issue. They simply told me that there was no research to support my claims. In fact, there is a great deal of research done on the toxicity of PVC. The manufacturers can claim they are not relevant because these studies are done on the production of PVC rather than the installation risks. However, when you install PVC, you use hot air up to 1300 degrees F to melt the membrane and seal it. As the membrane melts, it can feel like you are breathing ammonia. The air can burn your sinuses, showing the presence of harmful chemicals being released, just as they are during production. Manufacturers will not provide this information to contractors and consumers.

Their argument is that the roofs are installed in …

4 Actions Home Health Leaders Should Take

When you become the owner, manager or administrator of a home health agency people look up to you for leadership, to clarify, and guide them in the right direction, even if they don't ask for it they do want it. When I was thrust into a leadership position a few years back, I kept looking for someone who could guide me and show me "the ropes." I started reading as many leadership books that I could get my hands on. However, what helped me the most was watching leaders and mentors such as Oprah, Tony Robbins, Les Brown, and a bunch of unknown leaders in various professions in action. YouTube is great for having easy access to top leaders in the world.

I found that it was hard to find a person in a leadership position who would take the time to show me the ropes. Huh! I had to learn the hard way through many trials and errors. I finally understood that in some industries there is no emphasis on the concept of mentoring and coaching the "newbies". You are on your own, especially if you need help in the home health industry.

So many home health agencies are in need of having an experienced director of clinical services on board, that they are now hiring nurses with no experience in home health that can jeopardize the success of the agency. Having the right person and processes in place is crucial to meet the state and federal requirements. Thus, having someone with great leadership skills, experience and knowledge is becoming ever more important in the home health industry.

What about Homecare (Personal care) Agencies?

While homecare agencies are not required to have a Director of Clinical Services, the Manager still need have specific qualifications required by the state regulations.

As a first-time Administrator, Manager, Owner, or Director of Clinical Services, here are a few strategies that any leader can use to be successful.

1. Be a first-class Listener

To be a good listener you must be present. This means to be physically or mentally focused on what is being said and not being distracted by everything that is happening around you. Being a good listener will make you more appreciative of what the other person has to say. You will be more effective in problem solving. Listening to your staff may take a lot of practice, consistency, and effort on your behalf, especially if you don't agree with what that person has to say. We must remind ourselves of the benefits to listening more than talking. We must not judge the employee who is speaking, and look at the situation from their point of view.

2. Be a Better Communicator

Being a leader who can successfully communicate will be key to your success. Great communication skills should be a required for all agency owners, managers, or administrators. This is one skill that will vastly improve over time with practice.

3. Have a Vision For Your Agency

A great leader …

Surprising Health Benefits of Quilting

You know that quilting makes you feel good, but now there’s scientific evidence to back up what you’ve always suspected-not only does quilting make you happy, it’s actually good for your health. Researchers at the University of Glasgow published their findings in the peer-reviewed Journal of Public Health after conducting qualitative research using a local quilting group as their source. The end result? “Quilting seemed to possess some distinct properties for enhancing well-being that would not be replicable through outdoor/physical activity.” In other words, that’s dry research speak for saying quilting gives you a workout you’re not going to find in your local step class.

The biggest perk? When you’re happy and doing something you love, your brain gets saturated with dopamine and serotonin, otherwise known as happy chemicals-especially when you’re doing “meaningful work” using your hands. According to Kelly Lambert, PhD and a member of the neuroscience department at Randolph-Macon College, quilting complements these conditions perfectly.

Get Healthy and a Stunning Quilt

Next on the health benefits list is a decrease in stress levels. Dr. Lambert says quilters “feel a sense of accomplishment that increases your ‘reward chemicals’ and decreases the chemicals related to stress or anxiety.” Of course, lower stress levels are linked to a variety of good things from a lower risk of heart attack and stroke to lower body fat. In a time when stress levels are breaking through the roof for most people, who wouldn’t benefit from a little cultivation of mindfulness?

If you’re more into quantitative proof, a clinical psychologist published research in the Journal of the American Medical Association showing evidence that quilting leads to decreased blood pressure, heart rate and respiration. Finally, according to Harvard neurologist Marie Pasinski, MD, quilting is a soother for the brain. The Glasgow research echoes these sentiments, with the participants saying that quilting was a (relatively) easy way to embrace creativity, and the use of different colors and textures gave them a “sense of wellbeing.”

Straight from the Source

The Glasgow participants specifically cited, time and again, bright colors and how they elevated their moods-particularly during those dreary British winters. Most of the group also said there was something captivating about quilting and that they got into a flow, much like a runner’s high. It’s relaxing and at least for a little while, their anxieties were put on the back burner. However, quilting also requires problem solving skills, like when new patterns and shapes are required. From newbies to quilt masters, everyone said that at some point they always find a new challenge.

Finally, getting that tangible end result is a built-in reward that offers plenty of satisfaction and the feeling of achievement. During the social aspect of quilting as a group, the women said they felt inspired and all those compliments don’t hurt when it comes to getting a self-esteem boost. Quilting is “uniquely good for you” concluded researchers-a sentiment that’s obvious for quilters, but it’s quite the rush to get a nod from the world …
