With the New Year upon us, it’s time for those life-changing vows. Getting health is on most people’s minds around the holiday season, whether because of their grandma’s love of pies or their new desire to get in better shape. Today, Agape Nutrition brings you five holistic health hacks to get in shape and stay in shape.

Use SMART Goals

Before you can even get started, you need a goal. Rather than a vague goal like, “I want to lose weight.” Look at something Specific, Measurable, Actionable, Realistic, and Time-bound. Without these aspects, your goal can’t be met.

For example, let’s look at this SMART goal in detail: “I want to lose 25 lbs by July 4th of 2020.”

  1. Specific: Is the goal specific? – Yes, 25lbs is the specific goal.
  2. Measurable: Can the goal be tracked? – Yes, check how much weight loss by lbs.
  3. Actionable: Can steps be taken to reach the goal? – Yes, eat healthy, work out, drink water.
  4. Realistic: Is the goal realistic? Yes, 25lbs in 6 months if roughly a pound a week.
  5. Time-bound: Is there a goal date? Yes, July 4th!

As you can see, these markers show the goal can be met and how. Without them, you might run out of steam since there’s no finish line or goal.

Start Small and Grow

If you have a goal, then you should start small and straightforward to get there. While starting a new health program might sound like a great idea, the chances of you sticking with something new drop the more significant change it is.

Rather than try for a whole new diet, try adding in more water and a piece of fruit each morning for 21 days. After that, try adding in walking 10,000 steps a day for ten days. As you get more comfortable with the changes you make, you can add more and eventually reach your goal.

Get the Right Nutrients

When looking to get healthy, you mustn’t be cutting out nutrients that you need. For example, there’s a lot of talk about vegans and getting vitamin B. Most of that vitamin comes from red meat. If you’re going to make significant changes to your diet with the new year, make sure you’re still getting what you need by considering a multivitamin or something similar.

Talk to Your Doctor First

With any significant change in life comes health concerns. If you’re thinking about doing anything different than what you’ve been doing, talk to a doctor first. This will ensure that your body is ready and that any potential health concerns have been taken care of or are being watched.

Try an Online Workout Program

Finally, if you want to try your hand at a workout routine, think about using online videos and programs. Rather than get stuck in a year-long contract with the gym, use free or monthly online programs to see what you like and try it in your home. Zumba, Beach Body Online, and even YouTube are all options to get excellent workouts right in your home.
